Doctor Who: Comics Launch Trailer has landed

Today, BBC are launching the new Doctor Who: Comics range, the first two stories featuring the Tenth and Eleventh Doctor, respectively, and all-new companions.

Doctor Who: The Tenth Doctor #1 — meet Gabriella Gonzalez, New York resident and working in her family’s laundromat business, dreams of going to college “and bigger, better and brighter things.” So when the Doctor crashes the party on the eve of the Day of the Dead celebrations, it’s no surprise that she seizes the opportunity with both hands.

Doctor Who: The Eleventh Doctor #1 — mee Alice Obiefune, who has just lost her mother when the Doctor wanders in out the TARDIS door. But what does this grieving young woman have to do with the career of a 70s musician, an amnesiac alien, and a terrifying cosmic threat?

Both covers for the new issues were drawn by the renowned fandom artist Alice X. Zhang!

Comics are on sale starting today, July 23. They will also be sold as hardcover editions (around 130 pages) in the US, the UK, and Germany starting in December!

Latest: the first official UK trailer for The Imitation Game starring Benedict Cumberbatch

Starring Benedict Cumberbatch as the genius Alan Turing, The Imitation Game is a biopic revolving around the renowned scientist and inventor’s life before and during WWII. Alan Turing was tasked with breaking the German Enigma code and succeeded, giving the British the tools to decode every intercepted Wehrmacht transmission, bringing the war to an early end and advancing the progress of computer science. Together with his team of cryptographers, he spent months and months at Bletchley Park, the British Army’s cryptography HQ.

After the war, he was prosecuted for being openly homosexual, and accepted chemical castration by estrogen injections as an alternative to a prison sentence. It took until 2013 for the Queen of England to posthumously grant him a royal pardon to acquit him of these charges.

The script is based on the novel Alan Turing: The Enigma by Andrew Hodges. Co-starring alongside Cumberbatch are Keira Knightley, Rory Kinnear, Mark Strong, Charles Dance, and Matthew Goode. The Imitation Game will premiere in UK cinemas on November 14th, in the US on November 21. The rest of Europe will probably get it in early 2015, but the details are still fuzzy.

The Full-Length Doctor Who Series 8 Trailer Has Landed!

Dalek voice: “Life returns. Life prevails.”

“I’m the Doctor. I’ve lived for over 2,000 years. I’ve made many mistakes. It’s about time that I did something about that.”

“Where are we going?”

“Into darkness.”

I am really, really looking forward to watching Peter Capaldi bringing this Twelfth Doctor to life.

What else can we gather from this official trailer: the Daleks are back, the Paternoster Gang is back, the Doctor will gallop through some streets on horseback in a nightie, someone that looks very similar to the Gunslinger from a town called Mercy, spooky knights, and another exploding TARDIS.

I’m sure you’ve heard that BBC Worldwide in Miami seems to have a serious security problem: footage of the first Series 8 episode, Deep Breath, as leaked — and not just bits, no, the entire rough cut, albeit with stand-in credit titles and missing the FX shots. Still, it’s out there, it’s online, it’s a rough cut practically ready for broadcast, and it sucks. So, anyone, please, anyone who’s got their hands on it, don’t post spoilers, don’t start rumours, don’t ruin it for anybody. Be kind and generous. And whoever is leaking this stuff, whoever is letting these things get out: please get sacked sometime soon. Alternatively — if this is hackers doing this: stop it, you ungrateful nitwits, why would you even do that. Just to upset some nerds? Get a life.

It’s not the first time this has happened. Rose leaked 20 days before the revival started — which is probably why people were so bloody well surprised that, in Series 7A, the huge secret of Clara’s involvement in Asylum of the Daleks could be kept under wraps.

Sleepy Hollow Season 2 promo

Here’s the first official promo for Season 2.

Now, what do we have here?

War, is what. And apparently, the evil forces converging on Sleepy Hollow aren’t just turning up now, nor was it a coincidence that they made their first attempt during the Revolutionary War. As Ichabod states, “they have been planning this since before the birth of our nation.”

So, as we can see, Abbie, Katrina, and Ichabod all get released from the shackles they were put in during the Season 1 finale cliffhanger — Abbie gets out of purgatory, Ichabod digs himself up from his second early grave, and Katrina gets out of that tree. Question is, where does she go after? She’s definitely going to be interacting with 21st-century mortals, but what will happen after that? Surely, she and Abbie will have to trade places again, after what looks like a nasty run-in with a chair, rope, and a Hessian’s knife.

After last season’s end’s nasty surprise that their son, Jeremy, is aiding the Four Horsemen conquer Earth, Ichabod and Katrina are in for a world of pain during the brief time they will probably have together.

So far, this promo tells us nothing of our beloved supporting characters: of Jenny, of Captain Irving and his family. A first look official photo, however, suggests that Captain Irving will be institutionalised. When I first saw the image, I thought he was going to be thrown in jail, but just today I rewatched parts of the first season and realised that what I mistook for State Penitentiary garb was actually a top with the logo of the mental hospital Jenny was held in during the first half of Season 1. Jenny’s fate was unclear at the end of the last season’s final episode, though I believe she will pull through. Abbie needs her sister, and I don’t think they would sacrifice such a great supporting character for additional loss and drama.

New Doctor Who Series 8 Teaser Trailer Has Landed!

Basically, have 15 seconds of a Dalek emotionally manipulating the Doctor.

To be completely honest with you, this teaser trailer trend is getting on my nuts a bit, especially one like this. Teasers are clever marketing because they create waves of publicity instead of relying on the fandom to keep the tension up after a proper trailer has been released up to the series premiere, but really*. Give me something I haven’t seen before, something that’ll make me go, “Oh, I have to see this!”, not the same old “You would make a good Dalek” spiel the Daleks have been tormenting the Doctor with since revival Series 1.

* Perhaps it’s the fact that I work in marketing now and have conversations like that myself every other day…

The Strain by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan premieres July 13, on the FX

Based on their co-written novel trilogy of the same name, The Strain is the television adaptation of that vampiric horror story. Following a mysterious plane landing at JFK, Dr Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll of House of Cards) is tasked with investigating and examining what turns out to be “an ancient and evil strain of vampirism.”
So what kinds of vampires are we going to see here? The more SciFi horror kind of I Am Legend? The more mythical creatures of old, like distant cousins of the Underworld series? And how are the ideas put forward by del Toro and Hogan going to realised on screen?
Yes, it’s another vampire story, but this one I’m a lot more excited about than Dracula.

For more info and the main cast members’ filmographies, go to The Strain‘s official website.

Doctor Who, Series 8 will premiere August 23rd, 2014

Doctor Who, Series 8 will premiere August 23rd, 2014

The BBC have released a 16 seconds to Gallifrey teaser trailer for the 8th revival series, starring Peter Capaldi as the Twelfth Doctor and Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald, his erstwhile companion. The first episode of Series 8 will be called, Deep Breath.

The teaser doesn’t tell us much and yet, a lot.

Clara: I don’t think I know who the Doctor is anymore.

Watch the trailer on the BBC One website (it’s not up on youtube yet, I will post that link once it’s available).
